Justice Department Files Antitrust Lawsuit to Block AT&T Buyout of T-Mobile USA
The agency filed a civil antitrust lawsuit Wednesday morning in federal court in Washington that would prevent AT&T, which has the second most subscribers in the country, from acquiring fourth-largest T-Mobile.
The proposed merger between AT&T Inc. and T-Mobile USA faces government opposition but is not dead, Sprint Nextel Corp. CEO Dan Hesse said today in Kansas City.
Q: I'm a T-Mobile customer. What's going to happen to me?
A: Things should stay the same for a while -- perhaps a year or more. Under the original merger plan, T-Mobile would continue operating independently until the deal closed in 2012. AT&T promised to honor T-Mobile contracts after the deal was done.
