Wisconsin Senate Orders Arrest of Absent Democrats

This is way more serious than yanking their photocopying privileges.

Republicans in the Wisconsin Senate today declared the missing Democrats in contempt and ordered their arrest, reports the Wisconsin State Journal. And if force is needed, so be it. It's not clear whether the state constitution actually allows this, however, and Democrats don't sound all that worried: "The Republicans have gone around the bend," said one. "They've just increased their bullying tactics and are producing an even greater divide in our state."

Senate Republicans Thursday ordered the forcible detention of their 14 Democratic colleagues, who fled the state two weeks ago to avoid a vote on Gov. Scott Walker's controversial budget repair bill.

"They have pushed us to the edge of a constitutional crisis," Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, R-Juneau, said of the boycotting senators
