US Justice Department Claims Disruption of Iran-Backed Plot on Saudi Envoy 's Life

The U.S. Justice Department says it has broken up a plot involving an elite Iranian military unit to assassinate Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Washington.

An Iranian-born U.S. citizen is in custody in connection with the alleged plot, for which the Iranian government denies involvement.

FBI and DEA agents have disrupted a plot to commit a "significant terrorist act in the United States" tied to Iran, federal officials told ABC News today.

The Justice Department accused Iran of sponsoring a plot to assassinate Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the U.S. in a conspiracy involving a secret Iranian military unit and a citizen of the Islamic Republic with a U.S. passport.
