New York Yankees defeat Oakland Athletics, 4-3

Wednesday night's win over the A's isn't enough to declare A.J. Burnett fixed and ready for October, but it was a nice first step back for the enigmatic righthander.

Burnett pitched six effective innings against Oakland, leading the Yankees to a 4-3 win at the Stadium, their fifth straight victory. Burnett allowed three runs on six hits and two walks, striking out eight for his 10th victory, his first since July 28.
