Boston Red Sox defeat Toronto Blue Jays, 14-3

TORONTO — The Red Sox arrived at Rogers Centre last night having lost four straight games, the last three at Tampa Bay.

To outsiders, the idea that their many injuries were finally having an effect on the standings had increasing validity.

But the players rejected that notion, shooting down questions that suggested the team’s mission was to hold on until the missing stars returned.

TORONTO — Before the question was even finished, Kevin Youkilis tried to deflect it.

The Red Sox first baseman had just finished saying how little he knew about Jacoby Ellsbury’s decision to spend the last five weeks in Arizona rehabbing his broken ribs. And when the reporter began asking whether it was strange for a player to take his rehab elsewhere for that long, Youkilis cut him off mid-sentence.
