Wiretaps Played At Rod Blagojevich Trial Reveal Frustration with Tribune Editorial Board, Link to Chicago Cubs Sale

Tell him to hold up that (expletive) Cubs (expletive).”

Why should you do anything for those (expletives)?”

Tell them to hold up that f-ing Cubs s---. F--- them. F--- them. What kind of bulls--- is that.”

— Patti Blagojevich

That same night, Blagojevich and Greenlee talked again. Blagojevich instructed Greenlee to begin researching editorials in the Tribune, including one that had advocated setting up a committee on impeachment.

Blagojevich’s wife, Patti, wasn’t initially on the call with Greenlee. But at one point she shouted near the phone, “Tell him to hold up that (expletive) Cubs (expletive),” a reference to discussions between the Tribune and the Blagojevich administration about arranging financial help for the sale and renovation of Wrigley Field, then owned by the Tribune.

Continuing a stream of profanities, Patti Blagojevich asked her husband, “Why should you do anything for those (expletives)?”

Prosecutors play the infamous Patti Blagojevich segment in which she's heard chiming in over Rod as her husband and Bob Greenlee discuss the Chicago Tribune's drum beat to impeach him.

Patti is heard referencing the Tribune Co.'s hope to get state help for a Cubs and Wrigley Field sale.

Patti: "Tell them to hold up that f-ing Cubs s---. F--- them. F--- them. What kind of bulls--- is that."
