BP Admits to Minor Alteration of Gulf Spill Images Using Photoshop
The oil giant was forced to issue new guidelines to staff to “refrain from doing (sic) cutting-and-pasting” after several official company images were found to have been doctored.
BP admitted on Thursday that it “Photoshopped” some of its official images that were posted on its website and vowed to stop the embarrassing practice.
BP says the intention was never to mislead, and in the case of the command center photo, the staff member responsible was merely demonstrating Photoshop techniques to colleagues and forgot to change back to the actual image. Media analysts, however, say that the changes, while minor, represent yet another PR blunder by BP, which further undercuts its pledges of transparency in dealing with the Gulf crisis.
