St. Louis Cardinals defeat Arizona Diamondbacks, 6-5

The Cardinals transformed a frustrating, even bruising loss into something memorable Monday night.

Rather than having to rehash a fourth loss in five games amid a raft of lost opportunities, they seized upon an opponent's ninth-inning meltdown to steal a 6-5 decision against the Arizona Diamondbacks and jilted starting pitcher Dan Haren.

Three outs from victory, the Arizona Diamondbacks went into defensive collapse mode tonight at Busch Stadium.

Former Cardinal Dan Haren, who had smacked one of Arizona's three homers off the Cardinals, took a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth before giving up hits to Yadier Molina and Brendan Ryan, each of whon had two singles after lengthy slumps.

Let’s face it, the Cardinals needed extensive help fighting through their offensive funk. Nagging injuries and persistent individual slumps depleted their so-called attack.
Fortunately the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks arrived Monday in a very giving mood.
