Isner and Mahut Match Resumes, Tied at 59-59
Play is continuing for a third day on Thursday. Isner and Mahut split the first four sets Tuesday, before it became too dark to play. They began the fifth set Wednesday at 2:04 p.m., and play was halted at 9:10 p.m., because of darkness.
The light faded again, and so play was suspended at 9:10 pm, with the final set tied at 59 games each. Play resumed at 3:43 pm on Thursday 24, and Isner won at 4:48 pm, the final set having lasted 8 hours, 11 minutes.
Indeed, they had to come back Thursday afternoon, when another 20 games — the equivalent of at least two sets — and another 1 hour, 5 minutes, were required to wrap things up at 4:48 p.m.
