Texas Rangers defeat Chicago White Sox, 9-6

Mark Buehrle might have been at his best in the first inning Tuesday when he escaped the Texas Rangers' bases-loaded threat without giving up a run.

But the 32 pitches he needed to do it took their toll later. The lefty was unable to hold an early four-run lead and was gone before the sixth inning was over. He took the 9-6 loss.

The clock may be ticking on this season, but there is no ''deadline'' ticking on the White Sox as far as general manager Ken Williams is concerned.

Their nine-game homestand will be a measuring stick, perhaps even a significant one. But if it takes beyond June or July or August for the Sox to find the way to their talent level, Williams is prepared for the wait.
