Twins catcher Joe Mauer might have landed on the disabled list on Tuesday if he had received bad news following an exam of his bruised left heel. But a magnetic resonance imaging exam revealed a deep soft tissue bruise, not a bone bruise, which made everyone feel better.
A bone bruise takes longer to heal than a soft tissue bruise. While the Twins aren't sure when Mauer will be ready to play, they don't believe he will be out for an extended period of time.
