Pittsburgh Pirates defeat Chicago Cubs, 2-1

PITTSBURGH -- The Cubs wasted little time in getting their top pitching prospect to the big-league bullpen and into a game. And Andrew Cashner had even less sleep time leading up to his one-pitch debut in the eighth inning Monday against the Pirates.

The Cubs ushered in the Cashner Era on the strength of a 95-mph fastball that elicited an inning-ending pop-up from Ronny Cedeno and maybe a few visions of what the Cubs hope the kid can do for their evolving bullpen.
