For as difficult as his struggles may be in a new bullpen role, it is just as difficult for his teammates to watch Carlos Zambrano go through what he did Friday in a 10-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

''It's tough because he's so competitive,'' Marlon Byrd said. ''Any job change is tough. I've hit against him, and I know how tough he can be. He works hard all the time. Now he goes to the bullpen, comes here early and does his work. We're all pulling for him.''
