St. Louis Cardinals defeat Pittsburgh Pirates, 2-1
PITTSBURGH - Adam Wainwright's major-league-leading 17th victory Friday night did not come in the manner one might expect.
Wainwright did not pitch six innings for the first time in his past 27 starts. He allowed more than two runs in a game for the first time in his past 13 starts. And armed with a 5-0 lead in the fifth inning, Wainwright surrendered a season-high six runs in one inning, the Pittsburgh Pirates' fifth, as the Cardinals briefly fell behind at PNC Park.
