New York Health Care Workers Rally to Protest Mandatory H1N1 Shots for State Medical Employees

Several hundred health-care workers, civil libertarians and members of anti-vaccine groups on Tuesday railed against a mandate that medical professionals get seasonal and swine-flu vaccines.

But the state health commissioner said their arguments are baseless.

Health-care workers in hospitals, clinics and home-care services are mandated by state rules to get flu vaccinations this year.

Some people don't like it and several hundred of them staged a protest Tuesday in Albany, some saying they've been told they either get shots or get fired.

State Health Commissioner Richard F. Daines held a news conference to stress the public health importance of getting shots and defended the new policy.
