Minnesota Twins defeat Kansas City Royals, 11-6

KANSAS CITY, MO. — Even though the Twins didn't gain ground in the standings Saturday, they gained confidence heading toward their four-game series in Detroit, knowing leadoff man Denard Span is back to himself.

After getting beaned in the back of the helmet Monday and missing two games, Span has reached base seven times over the past two nights.

In Saturday's 11-6 victory over the Royals at Kauffman Stadium, Span went 4-for-5 with a career-high six RBI.

After avoiding Cy Young candidate Zack Greinke the first four times they met the Royals this season, the Twins are scheduled to face him twice in the next seven days -- today at Kauffman Stadium and next Saturday at the Metrodome.

"It seems in those situations, it almost always works out to where one is a good game, and one is a bad game," Greinke told the Kansas City Star. "It seems if you do really well the first time, they get you the next time. Or the exact opposite...
