St. Louis Cardinals defeat Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-3

PITTSBURGH - Until the eighth inning Sunday, the Cardinals' offense consisted mostly of wild throws by Pittsburgh defenders on pickoff attempts.

The Cardinals had scored a run in the fourth inning after pitcher Zach Duke's wild throw to first pushed a runner to third. Their second run, in the seventh, came after Matt Holliday was trapped off first but first baseman Steve Pearce airmailed a throw into center field.
