Lollapalooza has always been my favorite non-sleepover festival.
With its ideal setting in Chicago’s Grant Park, the skyline on one side and the lake on the other, and last, but not least, the consistently top notch headliners and wide array of day acts, it’s a perfect three day festival. Usually. This year, Lollapalooza was still a strong festival, but it was certainly a let down when compared to the last few years.
2009 had its moments, but it couldn’t compare to the Radiohead/Rage Against the Machine/Raconteurs/Lupe/Kanye performances of last year. It wasn’t even close. The weather didn’t help either, and losing The Beastie Boys at the last minute, then replacing them with the solid, but not headlining material Yeah Yeah Yeahs made this year stand out as the least exciting of all the years Chicago has exclusively hosted Lollapalooza.
