St. Louis Cardinals defeat San Diego Padres, 7-5

Five hours 47 minutes after the game had started Sunday, the Cardinals headed to their clubhouse once and for all to begin savoring one of their harder-to-attain victories this season.

"We've got something pretty special going on right now," said relief ace Ryan Franklin, who had warmed up but wasn't needed in the Cardinals' come-from-behind 7-5 victory. "That's a pretty cool win right there."

Then Franklin cast an eye in the direction of catcher Yadier Molina's lock...

A game that almost didn't start became a day that seemingly wouldn't end as two rain delays, streams of spotty play and nearly six hours of mostly unremarkable baseball culminated in one unforgettable swing for the Cardinals.

Rookie Colby Rasmus rewarded the true believers who stayed with a game-ending home run in the ninth inning off one of the finest closers in the league. Rasmus' two-run jolt gave the Cardinals a 7-5 victory Sunday against San Diego at Busch Stadium....
