Annual Fourth of July Parade and Village Green Activities in Winnetka, IL
My family and I attended the annual Fourth of July parade and Village Green activities in Winnetka, IL. The parade starts at Elm and Glendale streets and proceeds down Elm to the Village Green.
We watched it from the Elm Street bridge. The parade is a very traditional "throwback" of a parade (with throwback being a good thing!). The parade is populated with various neighborhood residents marching together, the library employees, various businesses, the fire and police departments, lots of old cars (see photos) and a couple of dancing and marching groups from Chicago.
After the parade, most of the viewers and parade marchers proceed to the Village Green where the National Anthem is sung and the Declaration of Independence is read. After that, there are running races across the green (by age group). The races are the highlights of the whole day, and it feels like an old fashioned village get together.
