A day after hitting a fly ball to right field that barely got into the first row to break a scoreless tie and leave Tigers ace Justin Verlander laughing to keep from crying, A-Rod was the only one grinning Sunday after crushing a fourth-inning shot off Edwin Jackson for the Yankees' first run in their 2-1 victory.
"I just swung and was lucky the ball went out," Rodriguez said. "It was a good swing."
Joba Chamberlain escaped baseball for four days over the All-Star break, going home to Nebraska to spend much of his down time playing in the backyard with his 3-year-old son, Karter. The visit was refreshing, Chamberlain said, and helped him process what has been a frustrating season for him.
