Bernard Madoff arrives at North Carolina prison to serve his 150 year sentence
Arch swindler Bernard Madoff, who was sentenced to 150 years in prison, was transferred to a federal prison in Butner, North Carolina on Tuesday, local media reported.
This federal prison is reportedly famous for its good hospital facilities. Madoff's family had been worried about the environment of the prison, so this might be good news for them after Madoff was arrested.
On June 29, the 71-year-old Madoff was sentenced to 150 years in prison for financial fraud. Madoff admitted that he defrauded thousands of investors of billions of U.S dollars.
Convicted Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff, who admitted to swindling investors out of billions of dollars, today begins life as prisoner No. 61727-054 at a federal penitentiary in Butner, N.C.
Madoff was sentenced earlier this month to 150 years in prison for multiple fraud and securities violations.
The prison where he probably will spend the rest of his life has two medium-security lock-ups and one low-security facility and a hospital. (We'll explain why "probably" in a moment.)
