New York Yankees defeat Tampa Bay Rays, 5-3
Phil Hughes finally resurfaced from the Yankees' bullpen.
The righthander was called on in the seventh inning of Monday night's 5-3 win over the Rays at the Stadium. It was his first career relief appearance in the regular season and the first time Hughes had pitched in a game in eight days.
And the Yankees liked what they saw from the 22-year-old.
"He gave us a big inning, going through the top of the order," Joe Girardi said. "He did a very nice job."
