Red Sox win 8 - 1 versus Texas Rangers in 56th game of season
Jon Lester came tantalizingly close to adding another historic chapter to his career, carrying a perfect game into the seventh inning.
A perfect game may not have been in the cards, but a resounding victory was, as the left-hander allowed just two hits and recorded 11 strikeouts.
You know who's kind of good? That Jon Lester guy.
Yeah, pretty good. He just two-hit the Rangers Saturday night. Was almost perfect -- almost. He gave up one run, walked one and struck out 11.
Geez. Maybe he's better than good.
Rangers - 000 000 001 - 1 2 1
Red Sox - 010 034 00x - 8 9 0
Lester retired the first 19 Rangers with as strong a repertoire of pitches as Red Sox fans have seen in several years.
The Texas Rangers are in no way similiar to the light-hitting KC Royals...they can hit. Last year, Jon Lester no-hit them but his complete game shutout at Fenway Park on Sunday against the heavy hitting first place Texas Rangers was the best I or anyone has ever seen him pitch.
