Nothing can suck the atmosphere out of a ballgame like a giving up a big inning to an opponent whose pitcher is the reigning Cy Young award winner.

After sounding concerned on Tuesday that Michael Cuddyer could land on the disabled list, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was more optimistic that the outfielder wouldn't miss too many more days with a strained right index finger.

Cuddyer didn't throw or swing a bat on Wednesday, but the swelling in the finger had gone done considerably. Once the swelling is gone, Cuddyer will resume baseball-related activities.
