St. Louis Cardinals defeat Cincinnati Reds, 5-2
Their attempt to connect on a groundball to the right side of the infield Wednesday resulted in an errant throw from Albert Pujols and a reaching, sprawling tumble for pitcher Chris Carpenter.
It's possibly the only time the duo hasn't been in synch.
Riddling the Cincinnati Reds with the bite and pop of his fastball, Carpenter struck out 10 and seized his 12th victory of the season with a 5-2 victory at Busch Stadium.

Nick Stavinoha has had 12 hits in 45 at-bats, a modest .267 clip, since being recalled from Class AAA Memphis about three weeks ago. But already the rookie outfielder, who batted a less-than-robust .193 in disjointed duty last year, has put the Cardinals ahead six times by driving in a run.
On Tuesday night, Stavinoha's two-run double in the sixth broke a 2-2 tie and it became his fourth game-winning hit as the Cardinals went on to beat Cincinnati 5-2 at Busch Stadium. ...
