Mayor Daley encourages a "wait and see" on Carothers

Indicted Ald. Isaac Carothers (29th) should not be asked to step aside as powerful chairman of the City Council’s Police and Fire Committee because, “in America, you’re innocent until proven guilty,” Mayor Daley said today.

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says people shouldn't rush to judgement on the charges facing Alderman Isaac Carothers. Carothers faces six federal counts related to gifts he allegedly received from a developer.

DALEY: A person is innocent until proven guilty. People are concerned about these allegations; let's be realistic. You know him. You've talked to him and others. They're concerned about that. But in America, you're innocent until proven guilty.
