Eleven Killed in Mawazine Festival Stampede
The tragic incident happened on Saturday night, when spectators were packed into the Hay Nahda stadium to see Morrocan singer Abdelaziz Stati.
It's a pity that such a thing happens at the end of a successful festival that put Rabat on the map of world music festivals.
Arab singers that participated in the festival included Kathem AlSaher, Najwa Karam, Wardah, Melhem Barakat and Hussein AlJasmi, just to name a few.
A stampede at a world music festival featuring Kylie Minogue and Alicia Keyes has left at least 11 people dead, most of them women and children, in the Moroccan capital Rabat.
Some 70,000 spectators were at the Hay Nahda stadium in Rabat on Saturday night to hear homegrown pop phenomenon Abdelaziz Stati when the accident occurred, shortly after midnight on the final night of the Mawazine (Rhythms) festival.
