Taylor Swift Begins Her "Fearless" Tour

In January 2009, Swift announced her first headlining tour.

Swift will take her North American Fearless Tour 2009 to 52 cities in 38 states and provinces in the US and Canada over the span of 6 months. Opening acts include Kellie Pickler and Gloriana, a new group in country music. The tour will feature a theatrical presentation of graphics, sets and visual elements designed by Swift. Swift will play guitar as well as piano. Multiple costume changes and a fairy-tale castle are some of the elements of the three-act show.

The tour kicked off April 23 in Evansville, Indiana. On February 6, 2009, tickets went on sale for the May 22 date at Los Angeles’ Staples Center and sold out in two minutes. Tickets for several dates and venues, including Madison Square Garden, went on sale the following week and sold out quickly.

The Fearless Tour is the first headling concert tour by country music singer Taylor Swift. The tour is in support of her award-winning, multi-platinum album Fearless. On the tour, she is joined by special guests Kellie Pickler and Gloriana.

Prior to the launch of the tour, Swift played three headling shows in the US, including a sold-out performance in front of nearly 71,000 fans at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in March 2009. Swift also played several dates in the UK and Australia, including two sold-out shows at the Shepherd's Bush Empire in London.

Also, in the midst of her own tour, Swift has been opening shows in select cities for Keith Urban on his Escape Together World Tour 2009.

The tour was announced on January 30, 2009, via her official website. The initial press release announced that Swift would visit 54 cities in 39 states and provinces in the United States and Canada. Joining her on the tour would be a new country music group, Gloriana as well as her good personal friend, and former American Idol contestant, Kellie Pickler.

The tour kicked off in Evansville, Indiana on April 23, 2009 at Roberts Stadium. In honor of the kick off of the sell-out tour, Swift was presented the key to the city of Evansville and the City Council President declared Wednesday, April 23, 2009 Taylor Swift Day.

The tour features an incredibly theatrical presentation of graphics, sets and visual elements all designed by Swift herself. The show runs more than 90 minutes and showcases Swift playing five different guitars as well as the piano. The show features multiple costume changes and a fairy-tale castle illuminated by more than a million lumens of light.

As of now, the main leg of the Fearless Tour is set to conclude at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 11, 2009. However, Swift suggested while on a radio interview with Key 103 in Manchester, England that if the Fearless album is a success in the UK she will return in the fall for a UK leg of the tour. In late June, a new tour date was announced for November 23 at the Wembley Arena in London.
