Jeffry M. Picower, Accused of Profiting Significantly from Bernie Madoff Fraud, Found Dead
A hysterical Barbara Picower called 911 after seeing her husband, billionaire and close friend of Bernard Madoff, Jeffry Picower, at the bottom of her swimming pool.
The Palm Beach Police Department just released the tape of the call that was placed around noon on Sunday.
Madoff billionaire's wife pleads for help after finding husband in pool.
"He's at the bottom of the pool," says a frantic and crying Mrs. Picower to the emergency operator on the other end of the line.
Jeffry Picower, a longtime friend of Bernard Madoff and a figure who had been under scrutiny in the criminal investigation surrounding Mr. Madoff's fraud scheme, died after suffering a "massive heart attack" at his Palm Beach, Fla., home on Sunday, Mr. Picower's lawyer said.
The lawyer, William Zabel, said in a statement that an autopsy showed Mr. Picower, 67 years old, drowned in his pool because of the heart attack. A spokeswoman said Mr. Picower suffered from Parkinson's disease, a neurological disorder that affects motor skills, as well as unspecified heart-related problems.
