New England Patriots defeat Jacksonville Jaguars, 31-20

FOXBOROUGH - He was silent for seven straight days, allowing him plenty of free time to take note of the gushing testimonials given on behalf of Jacksonville running backs Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew.

The tandem had completed a prolific regular season, culminating in Taylor's selection as a Pro Bowl replacement. They were, so many of us believed, the key to last night's AFC Divisional playoff game.

FOXBOROUGH - That was work.

The Jaguars had talked and talked, and once they got here they walked the walk. Big, tough, mean, and fearless, they played a game that would have beaten anyone else - well, maybe not the Colts - and they no doubt left here with a feeling of enormous frustration. But you'd like to think they also left here with appropriate respect for their opponents.

After all, they were playing Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.
