Erik Bedard vs. Daisuke Matsuzaka lived up to the hype. Bedard took a two-hit shutout into the eighth inning and lost it with two outs when Wily Mo Pena singled to score Jason Varitek. Bedard, who retired 12 straight, was charged with two more runs after he left the game. Matsuzaka held the Orioles to one run and four hits in seven innings. He retired eight of his last nine.
