Taste of Chicago 2007

One of the largest tourist attractions in Illinois begins this weekend: the Taste of Chicago.

For ten days, over 70 restaurants from all over Chicago set up tents on a half-mile strip near Grant Park, allowing millions of people to sample an incredible amount of food from several cultures. Whether you like fast food or elegant entrees, you can find it at the Taste, along with cooking demonstrations, live music, and kids’ entertainment.

I used my summer in 2007 to travel to six different food festivals across the U.S. My goal was to see if it was truly possible get a "taste" of each city/state I visited. Afterall, these events are named "Taste of . . ."

Trust me, I was not out to judge anyone's culinary scene, I was trying to see if I could eat something that each city/state could call their own, and in this case I was trying to get a Taste of Chicago.

The Taste of Chicago was my first festival this summer, which was attended by over 3.5 million people and is considered the biggest food festival of its kind in the U.S.

More than food, the Taste of Chicago

When most people think of the Taste of Chicago they think of food, food and more food. While you can’t pass up some corn on the cob on a hot summer day, food isn’t nearly the only reason to go to the Taste of Chicago.

Besides eating you can enjoy some great music at the taste, with free admission concerts from top performers like Kenny Rodgers, Sara Evans, John Mayer, Cheap Trick, Soul Asylum, and more there are concert options for every music taste. These concerts run daily during the taste. Take a look at the current Taste of Chicago free concert schedule. This has to be Chicago’s largest free music event of the year!
