2007 Seattle Gay Pride Parade

The Pride Parade — that almost wasn't this year — sashayed and strutted its way through downtown Sunday, proving yet again to be a dazzling celebration of Seattle's gay and lesbian culture.

Before thousands of cheering onlookers, Dykes on Bikes led the way, roaring and honking down Fourth Avenue to Denny Way in leather jackets and jeans and, sometimes, fishnet stockings.

Seattle's annual celebration of gay pride won't be at Seattle Center in June because of a large unpaid bill from last year's parade and festival.

Event organizer Seattle Out and Proud announced over the weekend that it would not be "financially prudent" to proceed with a large-scale event in downtown Seattle with a $100,000 debt to Seattle Center for last year's three-day festival.
