Garuda Indonesia Flight 200 Crashes

Garuda Indonesia Flight 200 (GA200) was the scheduled domestic passenger flight of a Boeing 737-497 operated by Garuda Indonesia between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

The aircraft crashed and burst into flames while landing at Adisucipto International Airport on March 7, 2007. According to the airline, 21 passengers and 1 crew member were killed; both the captain and the first officer survived and were admitted to an Indonesian military hospital.

A Garuda Airlines plane has exploded upon landing in Yogyakarta this morning. Of the 140 passengers, 95 have been conformed as survivors. According to news reports something may have ruptured before landing, that caused the plane to explode after it landed and came to a stop.

Flight 200 left Jakarta at 6 am enroute to Yogyakarta.

The flight was piloted by Capt. Komar who has worked with Garuda Indonesia since 1985. 133 passengers and seven crew were on board.

The flight caught fire when it reached the end the runway upon arrival in Yogyakarta.

By the afternoon of March 7, Garuda was reporting that 93 passengers had been evacuated from the plane and were taken to two hospitals – Panti Ratih and Panti Rini.

22 people on board are reported dead - 21 passengers and 1 crew member.
