Seattle Mariners defeat Boston Red Sox, 6-3

SEATTLE -- Lefty Jon Lester's sore back hasn't shown any improvement, so the Red Sox sent him back to Boston yesterday to have tests.

Player and team sources confirmed that Lester's back was injured in a car accident on Storrow Drive last week before a start against the Yankees. The soreness and stiffness developed a couple of days after the accident and it bothered him in his last start, which he won, 5-4, in Anaheim, Calif., Wednesday.
