ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- David Wells, who hadn't set foot in a Red Sox clubhouse since June 7 at Yankee Stadium, showed up yesterday and played catch in the outfield before the game.

But manager Terry Francona offered no indication that Wells will be able to pitch any time soon, if ever again.
