Seattle Mariners defeat Boston Red Sox, 9-8

SEATTLE -- Manny Ramírez may have done the smartest thing any Red Sox outfielder did yesterday afternoon when he took advantage of a break in the action in the sixth inning -- reliever Craig Hansen was trotting in to pitch -- to grab a seat in the Sox bullpen.

Too bad Ramírez didn't invite center fielder Coco Crisp to join him there for the rest of the afternoon -- for a nap, perhaps, or a barbecue, a poetry reading -- anything that would have spared them the embarrassm...

SEATTLE -- Before he hit the showers -- not long after a Richie Sexson shot had settled into the Red Sox bullpen in left to end one of the more bizarre games of the season -- Mike Timlin pulled Manny Delcarmen aside to impart some of the wisdom he's learned in his 15-plus seasons in the major leagues. Both relievers had difficult outings yesterday in Seattle, leading to a 9-8 loss at the hands of the Mariners.
