"The Dreaming" Begins

The Dreaming is an Original English-language manga series created by Artist/Author Queenie Chan and published by Tokyopop.

It is one of the first manga put out by the company that were not made in Japan.

Jeanie and Amber Malkin - identical twin sisters - are new students at the 100-year-old Greenwich Private College, a boarding school in North Sydney, Australia that lies on the edge of vast, virgin bushlands. After settling in and meeting new friends, the girls learn an unsettling secret: time and time again over the past century, students have wandered off into the wilderness surrounding the school and vanished without a trace, never to return. They both begin to have strange dreams and is scared of the school. Jeanie and Amber begin to discover the mystery behind the disappearances and also the reason why the College's creepy vice-principal carries such a prejudice against identical twins.

Queenie Chan is a Chinese-Australian Original English-Language manga artist who was born in 1980. She originally lived in Hong Kong, but in 1986, she and her family moved to Australia. Through her childhood, she has interest in reading manga and read Chinese-translated versions of Shonen Jump. She also read popular American cartoons such as Garfield and Calvin and Hobbes.

Initially, she came into the University of New South Wales (UNSW) to study to become a computer programmer, but in mid-1998, she was inspired to write and draw her own manga stories after reading Rurouni Kenshin by Watsuki Nobuhiro. Queenie Chan then started publishing her own web comics before she considered submitting her work to Tokyopop, where she successfully published her three volume series The Dreaming.

She co-wrote and illustrated the graphic novel In Odd We Trust, a prequel to Dean Koontz's Odd Thomas, and published by Del Rey. She recently signed on to illustrate another Odd Thomas graphic novel for Del Rey, and is illustrating The Boy's Book of Positive Quotations for Fairview Press.
