Boston College defeats Harvard, 4-1

When Boston College forward Patrick Eaves skates off the ice for a breather these days, he often gets a few words of personal coaching and encouragement - and not only from head coach Jerry York or the assistants.

In last night's Beanpot game against Harvard, brother Ben Eaves, dressed in a gray suit and red tie, was sizing up the opponent's strengths and weaknesses for Patrick, doing what he could in the role of player/coach.

Boston College has had a smooth run this season. The Eagles (19-3-3, 12-1-2 Hockey East), one of only two teams to be victorious at top-ranked North Dakota, have beaten or tied every team on their schedule, except Notre Dame.

But a third of the season remains - BC began playing Oct. 4 - and many tests await the Eagles, starting with their game against Harvard in the Beanpot tonight at the FleetCenter. Boston University and Northeastern meet in the opener at 5 p.m.


Boston College remained far ahead of the opposition after the first round of the Beanpot tournament. The Eagles (20-3-3 and ranked second in the nation) took a 4-1 victory over Harvard last night and will meet Boston University in the championship game next Monday.
