Mustafa Hamza Leads Assassination Attempt on Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak

On a trip to Addis Ababa for a meeting with the Organization of African Unity, Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak's life was threatened by Mustafa Hamza and a group of assassins working for both al-Qaeda and a rival extremist group called The Islamic Group. The attempt failed, and Mubarak managed to escape with his life, but two of his bodyguards and five assassins were not as fortunate. The Ethiopian government appealed to the United Nations for the Sudanese government to be held accountable for the attempt, along with economic sanctions against Sudan.
