O'Hare International Airport Terminal 5 Completed
This $445 million, 1,143,000-square-foot passenger terminal project included 21 gates, federal inspection and U.S. Customs services, an automated guideway transit station, new airline operations, new utilities, a 600-car parking area and a new security entrance to the airfield.
The terminal building's unique design utilized large trusses to eliminate interior columns and features a lower-level baggage area, mezzanine-level offices and an upper-level ticketing area. The project also includes the construction of a 780-foot by 25-foot utility tunnel; 83,600 yards of 18-inch-thick aircraft apron paving; 440 feet of bridge and highway work for vehicle access and aircraft fueling and HVAC systems.
