Farag Foda Assassinated
Farag Foda was a secular Egyptian columnist, writer, and human rights activist who was murdered by the Blind Sheikh's Islamic Group on June 8, 1992.
He was known for his writings and criticism about the Islamic fundamentalism in Egypt. Accused of blasphemy by the Islamic Group, he was targeted for an article that he had written that expressed the view that the Islamists were motivated by sexual frustration, and not political intentions. He openly spoke out against the regime, and the only way that the Group could prevent fellow Islams from realizing that Foda's arguments were correct, and agreeing with his point of view, was to kill him.
