Moonstruck is a 1987 romantic comedy film directed by Norman Jewison.

The movie was released on December 18, 1987, and earned largely positive reviews from critics. The film went on to gross $80,640,528 at the US box-office alone, making it the 5th highest grossing movie of 1987 at the box office.

The moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie in "Moonstruck," and a lot of other things do too. "Moonstruck" is so heavily ethnic that it begins with Dean Martin's rendition of "That's Amore," and there's plenty more where that came from. With its accordion music, its bits of dialect and its love of opera (a key segment of the story unfolds at a Metropolitan Opera performance of "La Boheme"), "Moonstruck" clearly means to celebrate all things Italian. However, it creates the false but persistent impression that most of the people who made it have never been closer to Italy than, perhaps, Iowa. — Janet Maslin, The New York Times
