Kate Middleton Born

Hers is a story featuring not only poverty and hardship in the Durham coalfields and the working-class suburbs of London, but also privilege and links to high society. The central theme, though, is one of strong, matriarchal figures.

Middleton was born at Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. She is the eldest of three children born to Carole Elizabeth Middleton (born in England in 1955 as Carole Elizabeth Goldsmith) an airline stewardess, and Michael Francis Middleton (born in England in 1949), who had worked as an airline steward prior to becoming a flight dispatcher for British Airways. Her parents married on 21 June 1980 at the Parish Church of Dorney, Buckinghamshire, and in 1987 founded Party Pieces, a mail order company that sells party supplies and decorations.

Born at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, Berkshire, England, Middleton is the elder daughter of self-made millionaire Michael Middleton (born 1949), who was an airline officer at the time of her birth, and his wife, the former Carole Goldsmith, who was an air hostess. Her parents now own Party Pieces, a mail order company that sells children's party paraphernalia. She has a younger sister, Philippa ("Pippa") and a younger brother, James.
