The Soviet War in Afghanistan

The Soviet War in Afghanistan was a nine year war.

The war was started due to political beliefs. It was also the Soviets trying to put down the Afghanistan civil war. Soviet troops arrived in Afghanistan on Christmas Eve 1979 and did not begin withdrawing until May 15, 1988. The final troops were not out of Afghanistan until February 15, 1989.
