J.R.R. Tolkien Dies

Tolkien's wife, Edith, died on 29 November 1971, at the age of 82.

Tolkien had the name Lúthien engraved on the stone at Wolvercote Cemetery, Oxford. When Tolkien died 21 months later on 2 September 1973, at the age of 81, he was buried in the same grave, with Beren added to his name. The engravings read:
