Joe Biden marries Neilia Hunter
On August 27, 1966, Biden, then a law student, married Neilia Hunter, who was from an affluent background in Skaneateles, New York and had attended Syracuse University.
They had met in 1964 while on spring break in the Bahamas, and he had overcome her parents' initial reluctance for her to be dating a Roman Catholic. They had three children, Joseph R. "Beau" Biden III (born 1969), Robert Hunter (born 1970), and Naomi Christina (born 1971).

Joe later said about meeting Neilia Hunter, “She was lit by the unforgiving glory of a full afternoon sun, and I couldn’t see a single flaw. Basically, I fell ass over tin cup in love — at first sight.”
“When she turned toward me, I could see she had a beautiful smile and gorgeous green eyes.”
Neilia Hunter was from an affluent family in the Finger Lakes resort town of Skaneateles, NY and, after first being hesitant about their daughter marrying a Catholic, her dad gave Joe Biden a 1967 Corvette for a wedding present that he still drives today.
After Joe graduated from law school, Biden and Neilia had three children in quick succession.

He briefly practiced law in Delaware, was elected to the New Castle County Council and then ambitiously decided to run for the U.S. Senate.
