In the quarter-finals, Detroit outscored the Maroons to win the two game total goal series, while the New York Rangers advanced to the semi-finals by outscoring the Red Wings. In the semi-final, the Rangers won the total goal series six to three. As a result, the Stanley Cup final pitted Toronto against New York. The first game was held in New York's Madison Square Garden, with the Rangers winning 5-1. But when an announcement was made that the second game, scheduled for New York, would be played in Toronto due to the circus taking over MSG, the crowd booed incessantly. Yet, the Rangers won their home game played on the road by a 3-1 score. Toronto came back to tighten the series with a 3-2 win, but New York won the deciding game in a thrilling 1-0 overtime result. Bill Cook scored at 7:33 of the overtime frame to give the Rangers a three games to one win and the Cup.
