Hawaiian Pineapple Company Founded

James Dole begins growing pineapple on 60 acres on Wahiawa, north of Oahu.

Dole's company becomes Hawaiian Pineapple Company and is incorporated in this year. James Dole becomes known as "The Pineapple King," because he was able to successfully grow and harvest this crop that had failed so many others. His company puts canned pineapple in every grocery store in the country and makes the name "Hawaiian" almost synonymous with "pineapple."

Dole makes his famous quality pledge - "We have built this company on quality, quality, and quality."

James Dole is the first to offer recipes in ladies' magazines to entice consumers to buy pineapple.
